Sport and Societal Values

On September 7th of 2017, My class discussed the subject of Sport and Societal Values. We talked about how sport and society have correlations, The different types of sports that we love to watch or interact with, and how they are organized.  We also went over who partakes in the events and who does not, and what we value from these sports.

Key Definitions from the Discussion:

  1. Value - Is anything that someone desires and it contains a large amount of importance to them and their life.
  2. Amoral Society -  Performing the wrong in society. It involves cheating, lying, breaking rules.

Allen Hershkowitz talked about how sport plays a big role in society, and how sports can help solve issues in the world. A recent discussion in sports was the attempt for equal pay for female and male athletes. Females are payed a lot less even though some female teams are bringing in more revenue then there male counterparts. Sports play a large role in society and can help fix problems through the actions of the athletes and organizations.  Sports have also helped break down the color barrier for common events going on around the world in sports and society, that was a big problem in the world.
